How to adjust:
ISO - use menu button on back of camera, scroll to ISO and then adjust accordingly with toggle buttons

White Balance - Use menu button on back of camera, scroll to white balance(light bulb w/sun) and then toggle thru auto, daylight, tungsten, and fluorescent.

Exposure Compensation - Use menu button on back of camera, scroll to exposure, adjust up or down.

File Size - Use menu button, use the picture quality setting to adjust file size and compression

Flash - Flash button is a little button on back of camera, push button to adjust flash setting

Lesson 5 Reviews of Canon Powershot SD850 IS Digital ELPH. Three websites containing reviews of the camera. www.dcviews.com,  www. dpreview.com, and, www.cameralabs.com.  Using www,dcviews.com I looked up info on my camera.  There are many strengths and few weaknesses to this camera for a point and shoot.  Three strengths I chose are:  optical image stablization;  great photo quality;  and great low light performance.  The weaknesses I dislike the most are: optical view finder is not accurate; the LCD is soft around the corners and redeye is not as good as it should be.  Result of all of this is that while I love my camera I am now thinking of adding a Canon G9 with a larger LCD and more accurate viewfinder.

My Photo Errors

1. Subject blur/Partially blurry photo

This picture I took of a silk flower. It was completely still, yet it turned out pretty blurry in this shot.

I took this picture of my desk lamp. That was my main point of focus, yet it came out with the calendar in the back as the focused object, not the lamp.

4. Over Exposure/Washed out

I took this picture of my Mom's dog, Biff. The setting was automatic flash, which made this photo washed out and too light.

5. Under exposure/Too Dark

This is a picture of a Jesus figure, in my parent's living room. It came out darker than what I expected, due to dark lighting.

6. Incorrect White Balance/Wrong Color

This picture came out all wrong in color. It was the way the lighting was on the floor and reflecting off of all the other light colors in the photo. I had the flash off.

Olympus SP-500UZ

The review on dcresource.com summarized that though not without its share of flaws, the Olympus SP-550UZ is a very good (though not best-in-class) ultra zoom camera. It offers virtually every feature known to man, though some of them aren't implemented terribly well. Still, if you want a camera with a lot of zoom, and you won't be using custom white balance very often, then it's definitely worth a look. Do take a close look at the competition though, as the best cameras in this group are all top-notch.

This review establishes that the Kodak digital z700 was made to be very simple with wonderful features for beginners such as me. It has features such as “point and shoot” capabilities, auto and manual functions as well as sharing capabilities to send pictures via e-mail.

My second review comes from the website http://www.imagingresource.com/PRODS/Z700/Z700A.HTM that gave more detail about the z700. I believe this site is a very good site when deciding to buy the Kodak digital z700. If anyone wants to buy this camera, I would strongly suggest you visit this site it gives so much information, just like the manual. I looked at my manual and the website and they are very close in comparison. For example, the website shows you picture taking modes and how to use each mode such as auto, scene, sport, landscape, close-up, video, favorites, and it also shows you how to use the camera step by step. This is a wonderful site and I approve this review. J

My third review comes from the website www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Kodak-Easy-Z700-Digital-Camera-Review.htm, which gave more information than the first one but still short. This site shows that this digital camera is use for those who enjoy simple picture taking without the major manual settings done by SLR. It shows that the camera has a 5x optical which brings pictures in from a long way up close and it uses a 4 MP CCD imaging chip which was discuss in review one. It also shows the easiness of the printer and how one can take a picture and print minutes after for friends and family.

I feel the three advantages would be “point and shoot”, auto and manual functions, lens capabilities, and one more, printing. I joke, one extra more, it’s small and can fit in my pocket.
The disadvantages would be, it does not have the capability to shoot long range such as Kodak SLR, It’s big and bulky, and it cost lots of cash or lots of money out of your credit card.

The good: Simple to use; inexpensive.

This camera automatically controls aperture, shutter, focus, and even ISO sensitivity and white balance. Basically, the camera runs almost completely on autopilot, one button, one function, on-screen Help function included, to give easy-to-understand descriptions of camera settings, 3x zoom delivers true-to-life photos, packed with 6.0 million pixels worth of detail, ease-of-use with an attractive compact design; use standard AA batteries. All in all it is a great choice for beginners and straightforward fuss-free photography.

The bad: Terrible performance.

The camera takes 5.7 seconds from power-on to first shot, and every shot thereafter suffers a wait of 4.8 seconds without flash. Shutter lag was almost as painful, taking a full 1.3 seconds from shutter release to shot. It has a sensitivity range of ISO 64 to ISO 400, though since the ISO isn't recorded in EXIF data, there's no way of actually telling what sensitivity setting the camera chooses for a given shot. It has no optical viewfinder. This model does not offer a continuous shooting mode, above average edge softness and image noise. Exhibits average amounts of barrel distortion at wide angle. The Digital Image stabilization mode is effective, but you will notice increased image noise and reduced detail. The red eye reduction flash mode was effective only at close range. Movie mode has no sound and you cannot zoom when recording.

Panasonic DMC-FX100 Reviews

In conclusion, they all like the Lumix DMC-FX100, and recommend it. They think the 12 Megapixel resolution is overkill, but they liked Wide-angle lens, Ultra-compact well built metal body, sharp 2.5" LCD display (visible outdoors and in low light), lots of scene modes, and optical image stabilization. I think it is an excellent camera, nice a small and well built!!!

Ivan Does Week 3 Assignment

I finally found a picture I like for it's photographic qualities on the Net.

The picture of a woman with white skin, very red lips and pale blond hair. It uses very few colors and concentrates on the contrasts. It's a very cool picture for the way it brings out detail by removing almost everything else.

The Photographer is Bambi Cantrell, She does a lot of posed photographs... OK, Steve, they may not be real world but they are well done. As stated above she works a lot with contrasting backgrounds to bring out the focus of her subject. Darn Nifty if you ask me. In this case it's the Artzy part that made me choose her for my current favorite photographer.

This is a good program, it works like the Organizer segment of Photoshop Elements. The PDF help document is good. It would be better just to make the commitment to Photoshop Elements, but if you want to try the organizing tools it works well. The Starter Edition is limited to only 250 photographs, so it is not useful for most people.

Camara Reviews

KODAK CX7530

Review #1: Steve's Digicams
Good: He says that is is a good overall camera for the class it is in. It has a 1/10 lag when pre-focused and 4/10 sec lag when auto focused. The lens has a range of 34-103mm and has little distortion on both ends of the spectrum. The flash has a decent range and doesn't over do it. In portraits it has good exposure and keeps the skin tones natural looking.
Bad: The LCD is difficult to use in bad light and it also turns off when shooting in burst mode. It also only has 2.4 fps on that setting. From picture to picture with the flash on the is a 1.8 sec wait in between frames. I personally don't like that, it is to slow.
Overall a decent camera for anyone that is an amateur and wants a little bit of versatility to expand with.

Photo Forums: I found this camera on a lot of forum buts not a lot of information. It was mostly a question with a very limited answer. In general the field was split on the goods and the bads just as in Steve's review.

CNET review:

The good: Excellent performance; easy operation.

The bad: No manual exposure/focus controls; somewhat bulky for a compact.

The bottom line: Fast, simple operation makes this a choice camera for budget-minded newbie snapshooters.

Panasonic FZ18 Ultra Zoom

For the last four years I've been using a 2.1 mega pixel camera, which has served me well, but I was thinking I might want to make larger prints. I checked my pocketbook and it said, "Under four hundred bucks, pal." So, I began looking over camera reviews for a camera in the 8 mega pixel range with a decent telephoto lens - an ultra zoom. The three sites that I used for camera reviews and recommendations were:

I began my search early last Fall and the camera that seemed to have the highest recommendations over all was the Panasonic FZ18. Some of the features that attracted me were:
8 mega pixel
18X zoom
28mm equivalent wide angle
Optical stabilization
Accurate pictures at both ends of the zoom under normal conditions
Low purple fringing
Plus the camera was much smaller and lighter weight than the one I'd been using, which would make it great for backpacking.
The the review sites were unanimous in praising the camera for its versatile zoom range, its optical stabilization, and its sharp, accurate pictures. However the camera is not without its weaknesses. The one most commented on was the poor picture quality at anything under ISO 400 - excessive noise and blurring of detail. Secondly, the default noise reduction was set too high resulting is loss of detail. Surprisingly, the FZ18 does not offer high speed USB 2.0 support in data transfers. All in all, I'm happy with the camera.

Konica Minolta Dimage 6 Camera Reviews

I search several sites for reviews on my Konica Minolta Dimage 6, but when searching the sites you recommended I found them limited. There were far more reviews on the Dimage 5 and some on the Dimage 7. The Dimage 5 appears to be very similar in appearance and specifications. Consequently I read the reviews on that one and then did a general search, specific to the DZ6 and came up with the following sites.

Strengths of the camera:

Rated the best camera or second best in its price range
A wide range of options from auto to many more sophisticated settings including manual exposure controls
The anti-shake feature allows the 12X zoom to be effective
6 mega pixels with 2 inch monitor
Good tabbed menu system

Disadvantages:

It is not SLR
No RAW feature
Several reviews complained about the battery life of the Dimage 5 and I saw one review that mentioned it on the DZ6. A different one said battery life was “impressive” on the DZ6. Some of the reviews commented that the movie quality dropped on the DZ6; I wonder if they tried to improve battery life. This has not been a problem on the Dimage 6 for me but perhaps it is because I routinely carry extra batteries and a charger.
Quality of the video is poor, but I don’t use that feature, as I have regular video cameras

3 Positive Things about the Canon Rebel XTi

There is an EOS integrated cleaning system which keeps small particles of dust from showing up on your prints.
The Canon Rebel XTi produces image quality that is superior to that produced by its 10-megapixel competitors.
The canon rebel XTi has an excellent 10.1 mega pixel sensor which produces low noise picture with great detail.

3 Negative things

The body and the inside of the camera are all plastic. Therefore, it will not stand a whole lot of abuse maybe a few drops, some rain, and dust.
The magnification of an object as you peer through is not as good as the Nikon D200 and D80. Greater magnification is more comfortable and easier to verify you picture is in focus.
There is no spot metering on the Canon Rebel XTi as there is on some of the competitors.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1: Reviews, strengths, and weaknesses

REVIEW 1 (Digital Camera Resource Page):

The camera has excellent zoom (10x) and 5.0 megapixels, without the bulk of other cameras that usually has these two features. It has a well built body and has optical image stabilization. It also can delete several photos instead of one at a time. It has a movie mode. It does have it’s disadvantages as well. The camera however, has a tendency to be a bit noisy, and has a problem with red eye.

REVIEW 2 (Digital Photography Review):

It has an AF response time. It has a powerful zoom in a compact design and is perfect for travel. To help even more with travel, it has many built-in scene modes. It has a high sensitivity feature which increases shutter speed. Its auto focus is a bit faster than most other cameras. It has a high resolution.

I have a found doubts about this review. It’s lavish praise about the camera makes me think that the author is biased.

REVIEW 3 (Imaging Resource):

It has an excellent stabilization feature. It has a great 10x optical zoom. All sorts of built in scene modes. It has a decent-sized LCD display, helpful for its option of bringing up several pictures on the screen at once. It has a great, customized shot-to-shot time. However, the LCD monitor has a tendency to be inaccurate. It’s flash range is limited. Has some lens flare problems.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi Reviews

The reviews spoke highly of this DSLR, as do I.  The image resolution and quality are great and it is easy to work the camera's buttons and menus to make setting changes.  Light, compact and with a fairly large and easy to read LCD, this is a great entry-level DSLR camera in the sub $1000 class.  I found most of the cons irrelevant for my level of photography, except the anti-shake (image stabilization) feature being built into the lenses instead of the camera body, making an above average quality lens quite expensive.

how to use my camera

Olympus SP-550 UZ

adjusting the ISO- Click the menu button.  Then select camera options and scroll down to the ISO command and change it as you want.

adjusting the white balance-  Use the scroll wheel to select "my".  Then click menu>camera menu> WB.  This allows you to select a preset white balance option.  If you want to create your own white balance setting, hit the custom option then take a picture of a blank sheet of paper with no shadow.  This will set the white as pure as it can get.

adjusting exposure compensation- Use the scroll wheel to select "P".  Then use the left and right arrows to either lighten or darken the image, compensating the exposure.

setting file size and compression- Press the menu button.  Then select the file output tab.  You 

can select the file size and compression type there.

setting the exposure meter- Hit the menu button.  Then hit camera menu.  Scroll down to 

metering and select the metering that you want to do.

setting macro focus-  Turn the scroll wheel to guide mode.  Then select the option "taking 

pictures of things that are really, really close/small".  The camera automatically sets itself to macro focus.

setting flash mode- Press the button with the lightning bolt on it that is located directly to the right of the menu button.  From here, you can select the different kinds of flash modes that are available for the camera.

My Camera Settings

I have a Canon EOS D30 which is an older 3.25 megapixel SLR camera. I got it secondhand from Steve because I wanted to learn about photography and, especially, digital. I have had it for a few years and always used it on Auto settings because I knew nothing.

I sat down the other day with the camera and the manual and learned a ton of stuff about it already. As I read stuff, I tried stuff and it was pretty neat.

1. How to adjust the ISO? Menu button on back > LCD panel > use thumb wheel to change
Also, can use the set button and make it so that the thumb wheel controls ISO.

2. How to adjust white balance? WB/AF button on top of camera > use Quick Control Dial (QCD) to choose 1 of 7.

3. How to set exposure compensation? Use QCD > Press down 1/2 way and choose + or - for over or under expose.

4. How to set file size and compression? Menu button then use QCD to select which one you want.

5. How to set exposure meter mode? Left knob > Can do 5 types - Auto, Full Auto, Auto Depth of Field, Aperature Priority or Shutter speed Priority

6.How to set Macro focusing? On the lens

7.How to set flash mode? Open flash up with button on left side near lens. In most easy shooting modes, flash is automatic as needed.

So...anyway, I got out the manual and promptly lost it somewhere in the house so I downloaded the manual in .pdf format and printed only the pages that I thought I might use.

• How to set the flash
  

The settings for the flash are very easy; you just click on the button to the right of the menu button.

• How to set exposure compensation

This is adjusted by clicking the button above the menu button.
