Review Summary

The camera I own is the Olympus C-5500 Sport Zoom. Overall the camera got very good reviews for the price. The biggest thing that nobody liked was the 16mb memory card that could take only 4 pictures on the highest quality, making it utterly useless. Another negative was that it used XD memory cards which at the time of the reviews they were really expensive for a decent quality one, but since then the price has dropped a lot. It has a big hand grip which is nice to hold but hard to put in a pocket. It comes with 4 AA batteries which don’t last long only about 100 pictures. I bought some rechargeable ones that will last for 800 pictures which is a big improvement. Two of the reviews liked the image quality, one did not. I think the picture quality is great. When you pop up the flash, it leaves little room for you to hold the camera with your left hand. Another problem was the shutter lag. It is hard to catch movement shots or to take a quick pic.

They all liked that the LCD “gained up” in low light. They all liked the super-macro mode which I have not used yet. Overall they liked the camera for it’s low cost, coming with a 5x zoom and 5.1 megapixel. They also liked the package of manual controls that comes with the camera. It’s a good beginning camera at a nice price.
